100 Word Challenge:
This is a weekly creative writing challenge for students under 16 years of age. Each week a prompt is given, which can be a picture, viedo, piece of music or a series of individual words, to write a 100 words creative response. The aim of this type of blog activity is to improve your writing skills by using written language with a specific purpose. Another important aspect to highlight from this activity is the limited words available, which maintain the focus stable avoiding disruption from distracting themes.
The reasons why I choose this particular activity lie in how versatile it is. Students will be able to work from their own point of view towards the stimulus of the world letting them express themselves without feeling afraid of what other would think. Moreover, it would give them the opportunity to work out how the written language could be used through self-learning, for instance looking up vocabularry, idioms or useful phrases.
One of the benefits of using this activity could be that allows reluctant writers to actually enjoy writing, due to the how short the challenge is,as well as the materials that are use, such as audio-visual sources among others.
Even though I have not started my practicum, I would implement the 100 words challenge by presenting a prompt that is related to the age of the target group, besides crucial topics within society. Also, owing to it is a weekly activity, I would like to set out the dates differently, for example each month there would be two words challenges rather than four so that students’ motivation remains stable.
