The 4 c's

1. Why do you think it is important to include the 4 C’s in language learning classes?

The 4 c's in Education take in account 4 skills or key concepts of learning; communication, critical thinking, collaboration and creativity. These abilities determine and structure what it means to successfully achieve the process of learning .

In terms of Language learning the 4 c's could be consider as the basis for building up our identity as foreign or second language learners. Due to the fact that language learners will express themselves and who they  are in a social environment using a system of meaning which completely differs to their mother tongue.At the same time, students are being exposed to a huge deal of information and knowledge that should be used creatively and appropriately use by them.

2. How do you think the 4 C’s are connected to the use of technology in the language learning classroom?

Nowadays, technology is one of the new tools that education has been using recently. Due to globalization and internet, the necessity to be connected with the world has arose. Students are strongly immerse in a system that requires from them technological skills as well as academic and social competences. In this sense they should be able to communicate, create, work with peers and think critically in a digital world.

If you take in account language learning classrooms, it could be said that language learning processes are enriched by digital advices,to put it another words in internet you can be exposed to authentic sources, communicate with native speakers, have a wider outlook on the world that we are living in, among other. In the past, students, perhaps, did not have these opportunities to develop their language competences even when society needed.

Thus, it could be infer that technology is linked to a system of social learning that allows students to acquire knowledge that maybe is not available in traditional language classrooms.  

3.As a prospective teacher, what would you do to foster the 4C’s in your language classroom? Think of factors such as activities, tasks, procedures, materials, among other aspects of teaching. Provide concrete examples.

As a prospective teacher, what i would do to foster 4C is engage students to question themselves, get exposed to new cultures, specially those who are ignore by the curriculum, besides increase their willingness to work in a peaceful environment so that they can develop skills effectively.For instance, ask students to gather in groups in order to discuss privilege issues, such as racism, sexism, etc. and think about what are the reasons behind these discriminatory movements and the consequences that they can observe in their daily life.
